Franco Harris Memorial Park

Commemorating a Hero’s Legacy of Giving Back

Legendary Pro Football Hall of Famer, Franco Harris in his rookie year made what many consider the greatest play in the 100-year history of the NFL—and going on to become one of the greatest running backs in America’s favorite sport. The Penn State grad won Rookie of the Year honors and the next year helped the Pittsburgh Steelers win their first ever Super Bowl in 1974, a game in which they voted him Most Valuable Player and one that helped launch a football dynasty in Pittsburgh that continues to this day.

Franco’s heroics didn’t end on the field. He became known for his humility, leadership, and tireless, selfless dedication to the less fortunate youth of Pittsburgh and surrounding communities. His legacy of community involvement was extraordinary and always focused on the less fortunate.

Yellow trees

32 acres right in the heart of sewickley

The Franco Harris Memorial Park will  be developed with parking, signage, trails, educational gardens featuring local trees and other flora, benches, tables, a pavilion, a small hillside amphitheater, along with a centrally located statue of Franco, all featuring major donor recognition. During a public dedication ceremony with family, donors, and media, the park will be turned over to the Hollow Oak Land Trust to steward in memory of the achievements of one of the NFL’s greatest players, and one of Pittsburgh’s greatest citizens. The park will be available to the public at large from all over the country and the world.

A Goal to
sponsor 32 acres

The Franco Harris Memorial Park capital campaign will be carried out in two phases. A quiet phase will raise the first portion of the funds via private sponsors. Upon completion of the quiet phase, a public phase will utilize crowdfunding, the internet, sports radio, TV, and newspapers to provide for the rest of the 32 acres to match Franco’s iconic number “32.”
